About Canvas Replicas & Our Paintings
How are your paintings done? All our paintings are professional Museum quality, hand-painted, oil-on-canvas reproductions. We do not provide prints, giclees or ink-jet replicas. Our paintings are truly amazing. Click here to see the process.
Where are you located? We are located in Salt Lake City, Utah. We are the only major vendor of oil painting reproductions with operations and headquarters located in the United States. Other vendors will often list "virtual offices" in the United States for their overseas operations. We encourage customers to contact us so they can talk to a live person about their needs and requirements. For all our contact options and office hours you can click here for contact information.
How do you keep your prices affordable? We keep our prices affordable by keeping our overhead low. We do not have the expense of a large storefront gallery, we do not provide a hardcopy catalog and we do not send expensive mailers. All of this is done to keep the value you receive high and the prices low. We started the Canvas Replicas over 18 years ago because we love art and love to see others enjoy art as much as we do. To learn more about our history click here.
Can I commission a painting that is not in your galleries? Yes. We have many customers who commission artists and paintings which are not on our website. Email or phone us with the artist or painting you are looking for.
What is the difference between a rolled or stretched canvas? Rolled canvases are paintings which have not been mounted on stretcher bars. To learn more about rolled and stretched canvases click here.
Does the painting come with extra canvas on the edges for stretching? Yes it does. We provide an extra 1.25-1.5 inches of blank canvas beyond the image size on each edge for stretching. For example, if you purchase a 30 x 40 inch painting, the image size will be 30 x 40 inches and there is an additional 1.25-1.5 inches of blank canvas on each edge. If you are considering doing a gallery wrap on the painting you can request further blank canvas on the edges by contacting us.
Do you sell and ship stretched (mounted) paintings? We do sell stretched paintings in the sizes 12 x 16 inches or smaller but only by special request. If you would like more information and pricing on stretched canvases please call us at toll free 888.284.9671 or email.
Does Canvas Replicas frame paintings? We do not ship framed paintings for several critical reasons. We originally provided framing services but for these reasons we stopped several years ago. First, with the cost of shipping and fuel it has become more economical to have it done locally after the painting arrives. Second, having your painting with you when choosing a frame allows you to better select a frame which properly accents your work. It is very difficult to judge from a computer monitor how your painting will look in a specific frame. Probably the most important reason is because as well as framed paintings are packaged often the individuals who handle the parcels didn't handle them as carefully as you would or we would. Approximately 20%-25% of the time a framed painting arrives they will be damaged in some way (frame corners have separated, the painting needs to be restretched and reset in the frame, or the frame has been chipped or dented). For those reasons we now strictly provide the painting only. We strongly recommend if you choose another vendor you have your painting stretched/framed after it arrives to you. Otherwise, you run the risk your painting or frame will be damaged upon arrival and your costs can quickly skyrocket. For suggestions on having a painting stretched and framed you can click here.
Do you sell original artwork? Yes Click here to view our original artwork. Click here to view our paintings by subject.
Does the reproduction look exactly like the original? We examine each commission carefully before we ship it for detail, accuracy and color. We make sure the reproduction contains the coloring, elements and techniques used by the original artist. However, since the paintings are painted by hand and are not computer-generated there may be a slight color and detail variations between the reproduction and the original.

Custom Paintings, Portraits & Paintings from Photos
Do you provide portraits of people or pets? We do. A large portion of our business is providing portrait of people and pets. To learn more click here.
Can you reproduce a painting from a photo? Yes. We can take any quality image (photo, Jpeg, etc.) and reproduce it in an oil painting.
If I want the colors or details changed from the original, can you do that? Yes That is one of the great benefits of a commissioned oil painting. You can specify variations of color or adding or subtracting details.
Can you combine elements of several different photos into one painting? We combine elements of photographs or images into the painting.
Can you add color to a black and white photo or image? Certainly we can. Through our order confirmation emails we specify what colors you want.
Will you age or antique a painting? We do not and it is important to understand why we do not. The process vendors use to antique or "age" a painting is they add chemicals to the oil paint or apply them to a new painting. These chemicals break down or oxidize the paints. The painting appears to be aged (also sometimes referred to as cracked or craquelure). What these vendors do not tell you is that in 1-3 years your painting will most likely begin to flake, crack and fade. Essentially you are permanently damaging the oil painting with chemicals to obtain the aged look. We have had countless customers come to us for replacement paintings because the "aged" painting they purchased a year or two before is now falling apart.
Can I commission a painting which is not in your galleries? Yes We have many customers who commission artists and paintings that are not found on our website. Email or phone us (toll free 888.284.9671 or internationally 801.446.1239) with the artist or painting you are looking for.

Can I commission a painting by an artist who is not in your galleries? Yes We have many customers who commission artists and paintings that are not on our website. Email or phone us (toll free 888.284.9671 or internationally 801.446.1239) with the artist or painting you are looking for.
How long does it take for a commissioned painting to be completed? Your commissioned painting will generally take 6-8 weeks for completion. This is the timeframe an artist needs to properly create a Museum quality painting and have it dry enough to safely ship. Beware of vendors who promise a shorter timeframe - a shorter timeframe will not produce the quality of painting and risk having a wet painting smudge in transit.
How long will it take my painting to arrive once it is completed? In the United States our paintings will arrive in 2-3 days after shipment. International shipments generally take 5-6 business days.
What if I don't have 6-8 weeks to wait? Many people want to purchase paintings for birthdays, anniversaries or other special events and don't have 6-8 weeks to wait. We provide an alternative. We will either mail the person you are giving the painting to or email you an announcement letter you can print announcing you have purchased this commission for them as well as telling them a little about the painting and the artist. It's a nice alternative if your event is sooner then six weeks and lets your special someone know you gave their gift a lot of thought.
Do you provide a guarantee? Absolutely. We provide a 30-day full money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied for any reason. Be very careful with other vendors who offer you anything less then a 30-day return window. They often will offer a shorter timeframe (7-21 days) to make it impossible to return a painting within the allotted time and they will not accept the return. If you wish to return painting simply contact us by email or phone for the return shipping address. For paintings 45 inches or larger there is a 15% cancellation and restocking fee. For paintings of 90 inches or larger there is a 30% cancellation and restocking fee. To learn more about our guarantee click here.
